What are the benefits of owning your own well?
There are multiple benefits to owning your own well. Firstly, well water is more natural. As well water is filtered naturally, it is also softened naturally. This makes well water taste better and more refreshing. Well water also comes without the chemicals commonly found in city water, such as fluoride or chlorine.

Secondly, well water is much cheaper. After the initial installation of your private water well, any water you subsequently pump up from the ground into your home is free. You are free from monthly water bills, hidden charges or municipal usage fees.

Lastly, well water is environmentally friendly. As well water is naturally filtered, it provides less harm to the environment than city water, which contains chemicals that can be hard to dispose of.
Where is a suitable place to locate the well?
The most important factor you should take into account is sanitation. Make sure you locate the well uphill, or at a higher elevation than your septic tank, farmyard or other drainage. You should also not use or mix pesticides, fertilizers or other chemicals near your well. It is best to locate wells some distance from highways, as road salt may be a contaminant in certain places. Ideally, the well should be located at least 100 feet from a septic field and minimum 50 feet from a barnyard or septic tank.
How should I prepare my site for water well drilling?
The site should be clear of any overhanging trees, bushes or shrubbery. It should also ideally be on level and not sloping ground and easily accessible by road.
I have low water pressure. When my shower is running, my kitchen sink sputters water. Is my well drying up?
Answer: It may not necessarily be so. Low pressure may sometimes be caused by several smaller problems with your equipment. LAMMS Well Service can solve your problem with our constant water pressure systems. Contact our knowledgeable experts right away and we will help diagnose your problem. We offer complete installation service of constant water pressure systems, as well as full repair service, should your well not be properly functioning.

We can also do testing for nitrates, iron and hardness. Should you feel the water does not taste or smell right, call us immediately. We are available 24/7 and welcome emergency situations.
I’m out of water. What’s wrong?
You might be tempted to think this is a plumbing problem. Check each faucet in your home. If there is no water from any of them, the problem could be as serious as a dry well, or as simple as a faulty pump.
My water smells funny. What’s wrong?
Many times an odor in your water is caused by bacterial growth in a sink drain. Fill a glass of water and move away from the sink. If the water in the glass stops smelling, the sink could be the problem. If the odor persists or if the odor is present in water from all faucets, your well is probably the problem.
When I turn on my water, it comes out sandy. What’s wrong?
There can be more than one cause for sandy water: a pump that is too big for the well, a corroding well screen, a pump that is too close to the base of a well. To determine the cause and whether or not it is possible to fix the problem, call the professionals at LAMMS Well Service. We’ll help you determine the cause and whether or not the well can be fixed or needs to be replaced.
My water pressure seems low. What’s wrong?
Start by checking all faucets in your home, including any outdoor faucets. Make sure you run both hot and cold water through all faucets. If just the hot water is low, the problem could be originating from your hot water heater. If both hot and cold water is affected, contact us. We can help you determine where the problem is at and what’s causing it.
What is Residential Well Drilling?
Residential well drilling is a method of creating water wells for residential homeowners through drilling. Water wells are structures or excavations created in the ground to access groundwater in underground aquifers.

There are 3 main types of water wells: Hand-dug wells, Driven wells, and Drilled wells. Drilled wells are able to access water at much greater depths than dug wells, often up to several hundred metres. Drilled wells can be created by either hand drilling methods or machine drilling. The most common method is deeprock rotary drilling.
Whatever the case, don’t ignore the signs and symptoms of a failing well.
Two major signs of a failing well include:
  1. A dramatically increased electric bill, which can indicate that your well pump is running around the clock. Faucets that blast out air with water when turned on, indicating your well is pumping air.
  2. Delaying repair can cause major damage and thousands more in costly repairs. Avoid disaster by having your well inspected regularly. Call LAMMS Well Service today.
